Originally the bedroom recording project of singer-songwriter Jonas Bonnetta, EVENING HYMNS have blossomed into a trans-Atlantic-touring ensemble. They earned a Polaris Music Prize long-list nod for their second album Spectral Dusk - a heavy, patient, thematically-rich snapshot of Bonnetta’s upbringing in tiny Orono, Ontario, and his journey into adulthood, all told through his relationship with his father, who passed away in 2009. Recorded with the band’s closest friends, it features members of The Wooden Sky, Timber Timbre, City and Colour, and more. After spending the summer on the road, the Toronto-based folk rock project continue their run with more cross-country tour dates this fall.
Joining the bill is ANDY SHAUF, who built the songs off his latest release The Bearer of Bad News from the sounds of a weathered piano, the warm tone of his guitar’s aged strings, a clarinet, and the melody of a broken heart. And at the heart is Andy’s one-of-a-kind voice and dark, literate storytelling.
Both Evening Hymns and Andy Shauf have new albums in the works, and they plan to road-test some of the new tunes.
