While you might not be familiar with the term 'Bergen Wave', I'm sure you'd at least recall some of the bands.
The expression came to life after the sudden popularity of a number of bands from the small city of Bergen, Norway in the late 1990's/early 2000's. So much so, that my Bergen-bred friend Chris referred to it as, 'the Manchester of Norway'.
For a time, most in the music community might have associated 'Scandinavia' and 'music' with the overwhelming popularity of heavy metal. So when a stream of cool, electronic and independent acts took pieces of the global spotlight for themselves; it was time to take notice. So take a look below and brush-up on your Bergen Wave.
