We're less than a week away from Art Toronto and things are buzzing! In honour of this international art fair, we always roll out the red carpet with events, tours of the collection and special projects at Drake. But this year, we're onsite at the fair itself; you can find us at the Drake Lounge. It's not a VIP space, so all are welcome to swing by and put your feet up while taking in a site-specific installation by NYC-based artist, Karen Azoulay.
Karen is a master of creating experiences for her audiences- whether it's a conceptual dinner party, collaboration with fashion designer Jeremy Laing or an enigmatic performance piece for Power Ball 13. When Karen's involved you know there will be surprises, gorgeous surprises.
For Art Toronto, she's creating a layered installation that will invite audiences to participate and become part of the piece itself. It'll be surrounded by seating inspired by the wood crates that deliver priceless works to fairs, along with a playful collection of items for sale from The Drake General Store. The curiosities for sale were chosen to help you make it through the fair as elegantly as possible, with staples such as notebooks, pens, candy and colourful socks. When you visit the Drake Lounge, also be sure to pick up the latest edition of Art Smart Collector Button by Toronto-based artist, Winnie Truong.
There are so many great things to look forward to at the fair this year, I couldn't possibly list them all. But the solo projects look great! Keep your eyes peeled for a site-specific installation by Ken Monkman, Paul Butler's Collage Party and solo projects by Atilla Richard Lukacs, Kim Dorland and Chuck Close.
